While FinTech is revolutionizing the banking industry and giving millions of people access to financial services for the first time, new banking models are emerging with FinTech start-ups and tech firms potentially disrupting the status quo. But business schools and universities are not preparing future bankers for these changes, says FinTech thought leader Henri Arslanian. How can designers, programmers and creative thinkers help?

Henri Arslanian started his career as a financial markets and funds lawyer in Canada and Hong Kong, after which he spent many years with UBS Investment Bank in Hong Kong. In recent years, he has been teaching graduate courses on Entrepreneurship in Finance at Hong Kong University as an Adjunct Associate Professor, and currently leads the first FinTech course in Asia. His latest book on Entrepreneurship in Finance will be published in late 2016 by Palgrave Macmillan. A member of the Milken Institute’s Young Leaders Circle, Henri is a regular keynote speaker globally on the topic of FinTech and hedge funds and currently sits on a number of finance, academic, civil society and FinTech related boards and advisory boards. Henri is fluent in English, French, Armenian, Spanish and conversational in Mandarin Chinese and has been awarded many academic and industry awards over the years, including the Governor General of Canada Gold Medal for Academic Excellence.

In an exclusive interview, Bloomberg’s Emily Chang sits down with Zuckerberg to discuss how the company’s newest AI model Llama 3.1 will shape the future of business, technology and society. The 10 Biggest Fintech Companies In America In 2022 | Forbes

It’s turning into a sobering year for fintech. After a carnival of new unicorns and mega-funding rounds in 2021, private fintech companies are now scrambling to cut costs and stretch out the funds they have to avoid needing to raise additional money at a lower valuation (known as a “down round”). Their fear is well grounded.

Still, it’s been a heck of a ride, fueled in part by the pandemic-accelerated shift towards so much shopping and banking online. In February 2020, just before Covid-19 hit the U.S, the average valuation of America’s ten biggest private fintech companies was $9 billion, and the cutoff to make the list was $3.7 billion.

For our 2022 list, those numbers have more than tripled–to an average value of $27.7 billion and a cutoff of $12 billion. Future funding rounds will show whether these record valuations reflect an about-to-burst bubble or are, perhaps, sustainable after a pause.

Fintech Explained (From a Fintech Software Engineer)

I never really understood what's FinTech--there are credit cards, banks, and apps like Venmo, and sure there's software that is used by each but that's the case with virtually anything else these days. Though, then I started working at a FinTech company, and later on I moved to another one, and it finally made sense. FinTech is the intersection of finance and tech--but you already knew that. So, yes, FinTech companies build software that's designed to provide financial services, but what's the big deal?

Well, for starters, FinTech has been around for a while, although companies like Stripe popularized the field only in the past decade. Making a payment 50 years ago looked dramatically different than how it looked like 20 years ago, let alone how it looks like today.

And it does not stop with payments: Raising capital, investing, filing taxes, online transaction integrations, payment terminals, and virtually any other financial service either became accessible or enjoyed a dramatic advancement thanks to the incorporation of software and technology in the financial sector.

All of the above are existing innovations in FinTech--and Chase bank has recently published a report that discusses the future of it--which is discussed in the video as well, along with the different jobs and roles that FinTech companies hire for.
